3G Module in Cisco 1841 Series

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help with a Wireless 3G antenna problem.

I currently have a Cisco 1841 Series router which came with a "Multiband Swivel-Mount Dipole Antenna". I have attached a Sim card to the module as explained in the manual and have unlocked the Sim card on the CLI prompt. I have also set up profile 1 (the default profile) to store the correct APN for the 3G network. Usually for 3G phones this is all that is needed and the rest is gathered by the Service Providers DNS etc and internet connectivity occurs. However once this is configured I try to ping http://www.google .com for example and it comes up with the error message “%Unrecognized host or address, or protocol not running”.

I can only assume by looking at the cellular configuration; shown below; (show cellular 0/1/0 all) that the profile 1 is not active and thus the router is not using it as a default route for internet. Does anyone know how I would go about setting up the 3G card as the default route out of the router, I have done the obvious.

Set an IP for the Fa interface, set one for the Cellular module and the used the command “ip default route <cellular ip>”

Have you gone through this documentation yet:

Configuration Examples for the 3G Wireless HWIC

Re: 3G Module in Cisco 1841 Series

I have used this manual and I assume you are talking specifically about the "Configuration Examples for the 3G Wireless HWIC".

I seem to be more focused on using the first example as this looks more to what is needed; especially since 3G mobiles only need a APN url to operate properly.

I do not need a CHAP password so I select the option "ppp chap wait" as the router will not let me leave the password as nothing.

An Iphone for instance only needs a APN programmed into the phone and then the 3G turned on and all the other information is gathered via the APN.

Any ideas?
