4404 controller to 5508 controller with AP's

Looking to do an in-place upgrade.  Currently have 4404 controllers with (50) 1232AP's  I want to do a side by side upgrade to 5508 controllers and 2702I AP's.  Can I move all existing AP's to 1 controller and software upgrade the empty controller from 7.0.230.0 to 7.6.120.0 config and bring the new 2702I pa's online? / or / all of the above and bring new 5508 controller online and then add the new AP's ?

I'm open to suggestions or a better way, or if you know of a documented procedure...

HiHere are few suggestions1.

Hi

Here are few suggestions

1. I would upgrade 5508 to 7.6.130.0 (not 7.6.120.0) & make sure FUS of that controller is upgraded to 1.9.0.0 as well.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn76mr03.html

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_OL-31390-01.html

2. Then do the necessary config (same mobility group) on 5508 & bring it online in the network.

3. Then configure the high availability of the AP as per your requirement which AP needs to go to which WLC.

4. Once you are satisfy with everything works well with 5508, you can decommission 4400.
