5508 Controller and APs at different locations

Ok,

Odd question. We have a new 5508 controller here at our corporate facility. We have a remote location that is wanting to start discussing wireless in their facility. I know the 5508 can handle this but my question is when I start working out the configuration can I use the VLANs at the remote facility or do I have to use the VLANs local to the controller? Searching through the 5508 documentation now to see if I can find a configuration guide or something in the user guide that will help with this.

Re: 5508 Controller and APs at different locations

You can use vlan at your remote facility if you want. Then AP at the remote facility to be configured as FlexConnect Mode instead of local mode.

This is good reference you should read

Architecting Network for Branch Offices with Cisco Unified Wireless

Here is 7.3 FlexConnect Deployment guide which helps you with all the required details

There are so many ways around this but generally the answer is YES.

If you have a dark fibre and you can push any speed you want to the site or sites then this will work in "local" mode.

However, if you have a lease line then you can use FlexConnect.
