5508 uplink speed

                   Hi all,

I read 5508 can have up to 6Gbps  of uplink speed.

Need to know what does it mean?

Does it mean uplink speed to switch where WLC  connects?

If someone can expalin this in detail

5508, if completely populated, has eight SFP ports.  So you can have a maximum of eight 1Gbps uplinks (aka Distribution Ports) in an etherchannel.

One more thing, when Scott and I say that you can combine or form an etherchannel, make sure ALL the links go to one logical switch

You can't, for example, have two going to a standalone switch (like a 2960G), another going to another (3560G), etc.

All the links must go back to a single logical switch like a stacked 3750G/E/X or a stacked 2960S or a single-chassis 6500/4500 or a 6500 VSS-pair.

So where did you read this? You have the ability to use up to 8 gigabit ports on the 5508, so that would give you 8 gigabit uplink.

So it means if we put 8 ports under etherchannel then combined uplink will be 8Gig right?

Thanks for the information.

You also have to take into account your AP having a 10/100 or gigabit port. Also your link from the core to the access might be your bottleneck. So depending on how large of a deployment you have you may not have to use all 8.
