5508 with 7.0.98.0 firmware

Hello,

I'm in the process of identifying the most stable code for 2x 5508 controllers. It is a fairly small deployment with a maximum of 300 APs.Controllers are running 6.0.196.0 firmware out of the box. From a logical point of view latest & greatest code 7.0.98.0 should be much better than it is predecessor and I believe that would be the  Cisco recomendation as well With previous expereince, I know that somethimes this logic doesnt work all the time .

Hence  my question is, have anyone identified /encountered any critical  bugs/errors with the new code? and is it more stable than 6.0.196 ?

Any feedback /ideas appreciated.

sincerely,

Janesha

Re: 5508 with 7.0.98.0 firmware

I am user Cisco 1252 (and two radios are up/up) and running 15.4w.

I've been asking Cisco to update their documents but to no avail.

One thing nice about the 5508 and the new 7.0.98.0 firmware is when you are using the 1140 AP because OfficeExtend comes as a standard (no need to pay).

Hi Leo.

Thanks for your reply. We will be only using AP 1252 and thinking of implementing H-REAP for the branch offices.

1250 and office space ... Hmmmm ...

The 1250 AP is designed for large open spaces in mind:  factory, assembly plants, warehouse, aircraft hangards, theatres, etc.  If you have an office environment with wooden walls/partitions then a 1250 is an overkill.  The 1130 (a/b/g), 1140 (a/b/g/n) and the new 3500i/e (a/b/g/n) is more suitable.

If you decide to go down the path of the 1250 be aware that it requires 19.5w of PoE for full power.

Hi Leo,

Thanks for your reply.

Yeap the enviornment is a testing facility which is just likea factory.Yeap I spotted the power limitation but at this stage they are happy with just one radio. They intend to buy powerblock injectors later.Basically, the hardware were purchased before I got on board and all I have to do is to design & implemet.I intend to use 7.0.164 code for the WLC.Which I hope will be quite stable.

1250 can operate (with both radios operational) at 15.4w but at lower MCS rates.

Re: 5508 with 7.0.98.0 firmware

Hi Leo,

Under the powering options in the AP 1250 data sheet it is mentioned

"802.3af switch (AP1250 with single radio only" 4th bullet point.

It appears that there are two types of AP1250s floating around. One with a single radio and the other with dual radios.

Thanks for all your help although the topic got bit side tracked.

cheers,

Janesh
