5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

I think I have read all disscussions about 5508's and 4402's and 802.11n issues on this support forum.  Maybe I missed something.

With the same laptop, on the production network, I cannot connect at 802.11n speeds, on the lab network I connect at 300mb/s

Attached are all my settings for the production Network.

Production Network;

5508 - 7.6.100.0

3502i

WPA2/AES w/802.1x

Lab Network;

4402 - 7.0.230.0

3502i

WPA2/AES w/PSK

I have reboot all all controllers and AP's.  Any suggestions?

Ryan

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Create a new SSID in the production WLC for testing. Set this to 5ghz only with open authentication and make sure WMM is enabled on the QoS tab. Test with the client and see if the client does connect to the new open SSID on the 5ghz.

5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Created new SSID, Open auth,  5Ghz only and it connects at 300.

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Well that's shows you that it works. So now connect to your existing SSID and check to see if your connecting on the 2.4 or 5ghz and if your speed is over 54mbps. Also make sure WMM is enabled on that WLAN.

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

I connected back to the production SSID/WLAN(all radios) and it connects at 802.11g, 54mb/s

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Well then your WLAN setting is wrong somehow. You already tested with an open authentication so we know it works. Ale sure WMM is enabled and you only have WPA2/AES enabled not WPA/TKIP also or a mix.

I know this is an old thread

I know this is an old thread but I had this same issue with windows 7 laptops and it was resolved by installing KB2848224.

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

802.11n works only with open authentication and wpa2/AES which you have already. WMM is also required to be enabled. On the 2.4ghz, the max you will see is 144mbps and on the 5ghz you will see up to 300mbps.

I want to make sure when you are testing is if you connect over 54mbps, that means you are connected with 802.11n rates. If your not getting past 54mbps, then there may be an issue with your configuration.

If so, post your show WLAN

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Post your show WLAN

Also make sure your connected to a 3502 or a 802.11n ap and not an ap that doesn't support 802.11n just in case.

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Ok I remove WLAN and added back. Still only connects at 54mb/s.

So currently, the only differece between WLAN's is that production is using 802.1x and AAA servers.  ALso the clients on production network are pushed a GPO that creates the Wireless Profile.

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Well, 802.1x will have nothing to do with that.  Maybe look at your GPO policy as you already tested that it works.

It's easier to verify that your config is fine by posting the show wlan

Thanks,

Scott

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

You SSID settings are fine.... I would see what GPO they are pushing out. maybe they disable 802.11n.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

I think I found the issue.  I pushed out another GPO with almost exactly the same settings.  This time i unchecked FIPS compliace checkbox on the wireless profile.  Now im able to connect at 300mb/s.  Does this make sense??

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

I updated the production GPO with the change mentioned above and pushed that to my client and now im able to connect at at 802.11n speeds.

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Thats good.... maybe there was a reason they made that change.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: 5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Once i check the box for FIPS in my Lab Profile it drops to 54mb/s.  This is not good.

Hall of Fame Super Silver

5508 WLC and 802.11n issue

Well there is only one code v7.2 something that is FIPS compliant.  No other v7.x is FIPS compliant.

Thanks,

Scott
