881w AP802 latest software version

Greetings,

This is my first post on here so please be gentle. I'm looking for some assistence on uprading the software on my 881w ISR. Currently if I do a show ver while in the built in AP I get this:

Cisco IOS Software, AP802 Software (AP802-K9W7-M), Version 12.4(25d)JAX1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc4)

Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport

Copyright (c) 1986-2012 by Cisco Systems, Inc.

Compiled Fri 03-Aug-12 10:01 by prod_rel_team

ROM: Bootstrap program is AP802 boot loader

BOOTLDR: AP802 Boot Loader (AP802-BOOT-M) Version 12.4(23c)JA2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

ap uptime is 11 hours, 58 minutes

System returned to ROM by power loss

System image file is "flash:/ap802-k9w7-mx.124-25d.JAX1/ap802-k9w7-mx.124-25d.JAX1"

What I'm wondering is if this is the latest version or if their are newer versions available. I do have a Cisco CCO account so I can download most of these but I've spent quite a bit of time already looking and can't seem to find anything for the AP. All the IOS files I can find seem to be for the switch/router side of the 881w.

Any help would be appreciated.

881w AP802 latest software version

Thanks for the quick reply Scott but I'm not sure if this is what i'm after.

Today this is the output on my 881w show ver:

Cisco IOS Software, C800 Software (C800-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.3(2)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport

Copyright (c) 1986-2013 by Cisco Systems, Inc.

Compiled Thu 28-Mar-13 13:45 by prod_rel_team

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 15.1(4r)M, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

skynet uptime is 12 hours, 13 minutes

System returned to ROM by power-on

System restarted at 23:43:47 CST Sun Jan 19 2014

System image file is "flash:c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.153-2.T.bin"

Last reload type: Normal Reload

Last reload reason: power-on

My original question is the built-in AP and the router/switch appear to have separate IOS versions. Will upgrading the router/switch portion also make the appropriate changes to the built-in AP?

Hall of Fame Super Silver

881w AP802 latest software version

That is a seperate device that can be upgraded separately.

Here is the link to that:

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282550221&flowid=48125&softwareid=284180979&release=15.2.4-JA1&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=ED&reltype=latest

I would keep the AP image as is if its working fine for you.... don't really like v15, but its up to you.

Thanks,

Scott

Could you please explain the difference between the universal image and the universal data image? I tried using the feature navigator but It's confusing since the 881 and the c881w appear to support different images even though they are pretty much the same device.

OK so in an effort to hopefully fix strange issues with my ipads and iphones disassocationg from my network I tried to be brave and upgrade to 15.4 on the AP but received this message:

Do I have the wrong image or something?

Check the MD5. I don't like the v15 image as I prefer the latest 12.4

I think these are the wrong images but I'm getting them from the correct location on Cisco's site. Just tried this one:

I downloaded it from here:

So it's like it wants the ap802 code instead of the ap801 but cisco is saying this should work.

BOOTLDR: AP802 Boot Loader (AP802-BOOT-M) Version 12.4(23c)JA2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

That's got to be a bug.  860W and 880W AP are single-band AP.  So it's an AP801.

Before we proceed any further, can you make sure the MD5 hash value of the file in your TFTP server matches with the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website?  If they don't match, then download the IOS again.

If they match, then can you please try this method of IOS upgrade:  archive tar /x tftp:///IOS.tar flash:

Once this is done, make sure you either change the bootstring of the AP (so it will boot the new image first) or delete the old image's directory using the command "delete /f /r flash:directory".

Hope this helps.

OK I checked it:

scott@wheezy:/srv/tftp$ md5sum ap801-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA2.tar

ef058c4596ad356a06ba58b3022f04f9  ap801-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA2.tar

MD5 from Cisco:

ef058c4596ad356a06ba58b3022f04f9

So you're saying I should try to upgrade it another way?

Re: 881w AP802 latest software version

Well the MD5 matches. You can try to extract it like Leo posted.

Re: 881w AP802 latest software version

Do you have a WLC? The reason I ask is because you have a mixture of images

k9w8 is lightweight image

k9w7 is autonomous image

I would delete the images you don't need and free up some room.

Is there a way to get this bootldr off the ap802? This thing is all jacked up. I bought this off ebay so god only knows what the previous owner did to it but it seems really weird like they put another part in it or something.

No it's just a cisco 881w

Cisco C881W-A-K9 (revision 1.0) with 363596K/29619K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FTX1628811A

5 FastEthernet interfaces

1 Gigabit Ethernet interface

1 terminal line

1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

1 cisco Embedded AP (s)

DRAM configuration is 32 bits wide

255K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.

244440K bytes of ATA System CompactFlash (Read/Write)

But this built-in AP seems to be all messed up.

New Member

Also getting this weird error when booting it:

Warning:  the compile-time code checksum does not appear to be present.

New Member

881w AP802 latest software version

This is a 881w which does G and N so wouldn't that make it a dual band or are you saying there should be 2 radios for it to be an 802 vs an 801 because this model from show interface does indeed only have 1 radio interface

Hall of Fame Super Silver

Re: 881w AP802 latest software version

It's not a certain code, but that's the hardware you have. So the answer is if that code supports the AP802, which it does. There isn't a separate code for each AP. Many are the same images. If you look at the release notes, that will show you the supported platforms.

Is this going to blow my configs I have on it away? Also why do you think this will be any different then before? The router thinks it has the ap802 chipset in it so when I try the archive command it just complains about the family being wrong.

It's almost like somebody swapped out something in it so we have the ap802 from another device in a box that doesnt support it.

Your not deleteing your config.txt which would be your configuration.  the other files are for lightweight which the previous owner was using.  You can always backup your config to a tftp server.
