Add a new AP to a wireless network with WLC 2504

Tiago Reis

Hi all,

I'm facing a very strange problem!

I have an wireless network, working with 4 1600 aps and a WLC 2504.

I bought a new AP to join this network but... it's not working. The WLC doesn't even recognize the AP, it doesn't appear on the AP list. I don't have an Authorized list, it should be plug and play (I think)

It's not a L2 or L3 problem. I had replace on working AP with the new one, but... not working.

Do I need to configure something on the AP? It's by default.

Thanks a lot for your help

Accepted Solutions

1.  Your AP is running autonomous IOS.  You need to convert it to LWAP.  It's easy.  Just copy the IOS into the AP and let the AP boot this image.

2.  Make sure your WLC has the correct time and date or the AP won't join.

1.  WLC:  sh sysinfo;

2.  WLC:  sh time;

3.  AP:  sh version;

4.  AP:  sh ip int brief; and

5.  AP:  sh inventory

Thanks for your fast reply!

Thanks for the time to rate our posts, Tiago.

Additional info:

1.  Upgrade your FUS.   Get the file here.  The instructions how to do so can be found here.  Just a word of caution:  FUS upgrade take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

2.  A lot of the guys have been recommending people use WLC firmware version 7.4.110.0 as it fixes more bugs.
