AIR-CAP2602E-A-K9 not joining the WLC

I have approximately 20 of these AP's and 9 of them joined the WLC successfull.  However remaining 11 that are connected to another switch are not joining the WLC.  They are not getting the IP and on the router I don't even see any DHCP requests from them.

There are no ACL's on the switch, it is configured the same way as the other switch with working AP's.  Here is the difference I am seeing though when I do show cdp ne de:

Looks like the ones that are not working have a different image I guess that is because they never joined the controller and updated.  Any ideas?

How did you resolve? I see that the AP not working didn't receive sufficient power - was that part of the issue? Or did you resolve through the thread that you linked?

AIR-CAP2602E-A-K9 not joining the WLC

HI peter,

Symptom:

A lightweight IOS AP may be unable to join a controller.

Conditions:

AP is a 3600 series, with the 12.4(25e)JAL1 recovery IOS image (rcvk9w8)

installed on it.  This image may be factory installed on APs manufactured

in the first half of CY 2013.

The AP's default gateway is configured not to perform proxy ARP.

Workaround:

1. Make sure that ip proxy-arp is configured (default setting for an IOS

router),  on the AP's subnet's default gateway. Also if ip broadcast-address is  defined on the vlan with something other than 255.255.255.255 the AP  will not join. Either no this command or set it to broadcast.

2. If console access is available on the AP, then disable IP routing - then it

should be able to join, and download the new IOS image:

ap#debug capwap console cli

ap#configure terminal

ap(config)#no ip routing

(wait for it to join)

This setting will not survive a reboot.

3. Install a different recovery (rcvk9w8) or lightweight IOS (k9w8) image on

the AP, such as 15.2(2)JA1.

More information:

The 12.4(25e)JAL1 recovery image installs two default routes in the AP's

routing table: one to the default gateway, and the other to the interface.

The latter route works only if proxy ARP is enabled on the gateway.  As a

result, without proxy ARP, every other IP packet transmitted by the AP

is dropped.

AIR-CAP2602E-A-K9 not joining the WLC

Hi Sandeep

Thanks for replying, but I have already read that in the bug ID.

My question was if Muhammad resolved his issue by reading that or he found another way, because I have a problem where my APs don't get IP addresses - they are only receiving 13W from the PoE switch, but on my other switches I see that they receive 15,4W - and that's what I saw in Muhammads initially post.

It is strange, because I just replaced the switch with another one that I tested with one AP - and that worked and received 15,4 W - but now they only receive 13W again and don't get IP addresses...

Means your switch couldn't provide enough power supply to AP.

No it's not that, same AP same switch, only one AP does the same thing - 13W. CDP info:

Power request levels are:13000 0 0 0 0

Same AP other switch, same thing.

I tested the switch back home with another AP and it got 15,4W and CDP info:

Power request levels are:15400 13000 0 0 0

it actually looks like those AP have MESH code on them for some reason.

add the MAC address of one of the AP that is not joining to the macfilter on the WLC to see if that resolves the issue.  If it does, then add the rest and change the mode to local from bridge.

If it doesn't, please post back and let us know.

HTH,
Steve
