AIR-CT2504 & AIR-SAP1602E

                   I have an AIR-CT2504 & AIR-SAP1602E and I have not had any success getting the controller to see the access point. I am using one of the PoE ports  to connect the two devices which does give me power but no data connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: AIR-CT2504 & AIR-SAP1602E

HI Cavin,

This is not recommended setup (connection AP directly to WLC PoE ports).

First of all make sure your WLC running 7.4.100.x or above (Upgrade it to 7.4.121.0 code if you are running any lower version of code). Refer below matrix for WLC & AP version compatibility.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/5500/tech_notes/Wireless_Software_Compatibility_Matrix.html

Then connect your AP to a switchport configured for your WLC management vlan. (If not DHCP then you may need to assing a static IP for the AP). In this way AP should get register to your controller without any other hazzel

Give it a try & let us know

AIR-SAP1602E

"S" stands for stand-alone or autonomous IOS.  This means you need to convert your AP to controller-based IOS.

Conversion is very easy, just download the controller-based IOS from Cisco, load the IOS into the AP and make sure the AP boots the controller-based IOS and you should be fine.

Just to make sure, post the following output too:

1.  WLC:   sh sysinfo;

2.  WLC:  sh time;

3.  AP:  sh version

Rasika and Leo are right here. You have a standalone ap which needs to be converted and you don't want to use the 2504 Ports for the AP.

You need to download the RCV image and use one of these methods to convert the AP.
