AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload firmware via console cable

I have a AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 that I was working to flash to the Autonomas version AP1242AG and during that process I guess I held the mode button down longer than 2 seconds when I tried to factory reset it as now everytime I boot it and connect the ethernet cable the led starts flashing amber & red and the radio and ethernet leds flash in sequance as well.  It will not ping when flashing and it will not go to the GUI.  I can see it on my router DNS table that it gets a valid IP but it only pings during the boot up once fully booted it will not ping.

My first quesiton is.... is this a hopless brick?

If not help me flash it as I have a console cable but I do not know how to use it or telnet.  I have an old Win XP box that has hyperterminal and a 9 pin serial port to work with.

I need to flash it with the c1240-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA2.tar  file.

Thanks in advance

Re: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload f

That is the problem, I do not know how to get into it via the colsole or that is not working either.  I have a feeling it is more likely the first reason.

I did want to add that when I power it up without the eithernet cable pluged in the led starts off as blue and then switches to green with the radio led showing traffic flashing.  That looks healthy to me, but the moment I plug in the ethernet cable the led starts to flash amber/red and the radio and ethernet leds flash sequentially as well.  I have to reboot it without the ethernet cable and it goes back to blue green.

Does anyone have a telnet tutorial?  I downloaded the IPSU and the TFTPD32.  The IPSU will not find an IP address even when I put the confimed one from my DNS server from my router in there and the TFTPD32 I am not smart enought to get working.

Thanks for the help

Re: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload f

David,

Install kitty, putty or teraterm terminal programms (free) and connect to console port of the AP. Choose settings 9600 bods, point terminal to the right COM port and have the AP boot up. You will see things happening on the terminal. Then post the output as was suggested earlier.

The Tera Term program you suggested rocks.  That did the trick and now I feel I have some control on this AP

This is the boot up you asked for

I see what is going on now, it is giving the errors because it cannot locate the main controler.

Once I flash it back to Autonomous version it should be ok after that.

Do you know the consol way to flash this as I cannot find that bit of info in the Cisco page, not that those are easy to read.

Thanks

Re: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload f

Here are various ways to convert the AP image. You will need a tftp server and access to download the image from Cisco's download page.

Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

Re: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload f

This is the file name the AP is looking for.

c1240-k9w7-tar.default

Make sure you check the md5 hash to verify the file image isn't corrupt and make sure the file name matches what I posted. You also should be able to ping the AP IP address of 10.0.0.1

I also use 3cdeamon for my tftp server. Try downloading that and using that one. Also you can try to use another machine just in case.

Re: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload f

I have a good file name, verifed that.  I do not know what an md5 hash is but you may be onto something wth the ping.

I cannot ping it, at first I was going through a four port home router but then I went direct PC to AP and that did not work and then I tried PC to AP via cross over cable and that did not work either.  The PC is set a 10.0.0.4 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0  I noticed that in the AP console scroll that the image was ftfp://255.255.255.255/c1240-k97w-tar.default  so I tried to set the subnet to 255.255.255.255 and that gave me a windows error of "the combination of IP address and subnet mask is invalid.  All the bits in the host address portion of the IP address are set to 1.  Please enter a valid combination of IP and subnet"

Re: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 led flashing amber/red I need to reload f

You need to set your PC to 10.0.0.2 255.0.0.0 and try to connect it back to a switch along with the AP.
