Aironet 1220B-A-K9 Support IOS Upgrade from VxWorks?

Hello,

I just purchased a Cisco AP from eBay and had a couple of basic questions, Is this AP upgradable to IOS from VxWorks? If so will this upgrade enable 802.11g support as opposed to 802.11b.

Thanks In Advance.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Yo should be able to upgrade the AP from VXworks to IOS.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_tech_note09186a008019fea0.shtml

However since the AP you are using has 802.11b radio omodule even upgrading to IOS won't give you 802.11g support untill you replace the 802.11b module with 802.11g radio module.

Thanks for your reply, I'm not sure if the radio module is 802.11b it may have the g module. I asked the seller this info but was unable to determine this, I'll find out when the AP arrives.

Thanks again.

Hi Tony,

Just to add a note here to the great info from Sushil :) Look for a Compliance Label on the 1220 to see if it has an upgraded "G" Radio installed;

(I don't think it is listed in the actual "show-version")

This compliance label is only required for customers who have access points originally shipped with 802.11b radios (AIR-AP1220B-x-K9 or AIR-AP1230B-x-K9) and who are upgrading their radios to 802.11g with the AIR-MP21G-x-K9 upgrade kits.

From these docs;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_field_notice09186a00801f9d7a.shtml

Here is the radio upgrade procedure;

Hope this helps!

Thanks Rob! I'll check this when the AP arrives in the mail.

Tony

Hello, looks like this AP has a password set. Is there a way to reset this thing to factory defaults without the password? or is there a util that can do this (the Ap is running VxWorks by the way. I noticed also by looking for a compliance sticker there is one that reads AIR-MP20B-A-K9 there is also a sticker that describes the model number AIR-1220B-A-K9 not sure if this AP has the 802.11g module or the b.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

Firt off, hope all is well :) This label indicates the "B" radio only (Oh well!).

Reset the VxWorks AP;
