Aironet AP 1252: How to use 802.11g only?

Hello,

i have an autonomous accesspoint here and cann't find a way to disable the 802.11n standard. Does anyone know how to limit it to 802.11g at 2.4 Ghz?

Radio1 / 5Ghz is already disabled.

Aironet AP 1252: How to use 802.11g only?

The only way is to not use the 802.11n rates and set the basic rates to 1,2,5.5,11 only on the 2.4ghz.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Aironet AP 1252: How to use 802.11g only?

Basically this:

config t

interface Dot11Radio0

speed  basic-1.0 basic-2.0 basic-5.5 basic-11.0

end

wr mem

Why would you want to disable this anyways?  802.11n is backwards compatible with 802.11b/g.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Aironet AP 1252: How to use 802.11g only?

There are few other options as well. If you want to get 802.11n speeds you have to fullfill two conditions

1. Authentication should be either Open or WPA2/AES

2. WMM should be enable.

So if you are using WPA/TKIP, automatically you you will disable 802.11n rates.

If you want to use WPA2/AES, then you can disable WMM on radio interfaces & that should disable 802.11n rates as well.

Thanks for your answer. this works, although i've tested up to the maximum 802.11g rate basic-54.0 with a configured channel width of 20.

Why would you want to disable this anyways?  802.11n is backwards compatible with 802.11b/g.

This are strict requirements for a fair/exhibition. I guess there will be a lot of independent WLANs per hall ;-)

I use WPA2/AES so this method is definitely the easiest one and works fine. Thank you!

Best way to use only g radio is to use the data rate specific to g radio and kepp disable the n radio related data rates.
