Re: Ap 1142 error hostname configuration

Typically you see this when the AP has joined a WLC.  So you can either just let it join and make the changes from the WLC or you have to erase the nvram of the AP

Entered the username and password

debug capwap console cli

debug lwapp console cli

erase /all nvram:

undebug all

You can try these commands and see if it works also:

clear capwap private-config

clear lwapp private-config

Ap 1142 error hostname configuration

Here is why the command may be locked;

***The LAP was previously registered to a WLC, but the username/password was not changed from the default

Once your LAP successfully registers with the WLC, the static LWAPP configuration commands (discussed in the previous section) are locked out and are no longer accessible. In order to re-enable the commands, you must have set the username and password while the LAP was joined to the previous controller.

When the LAP is registered to a controller, use this controller CLI command to set the AP's username and password:

config ap username password

From this doc;

Hope this helps!

Re: Ap 1142 error hostname configuration

You should issue the hostname command after issueing "debug capwap console cli" command as shown below.

LAP2#capwap ap hostname HELLO

ERROR!!! Command is disabled.

LAP2#debug capwap console cli

This command is meant only for debugging/troubleshooting

Any configuration change may result in different

behavior from centralized configuration.

CAPWAP console CLI allow/disallow debugging is on

LAP2#conf t

Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.

LAP2(config)#hostname HELLO

Proceed with reload? [confirm]

Writing out the event log to nvram.

*Jan 16 21:16:17.232: %DHCP-6-ADDRESS_ASSIGN: Interface GigabitEthernet0 assigned DHCP address, mask, hostname LAP2

This change won't last after a reload & will go back to previous name unless you set this throug WLC.

Ap 1142 error hostname configuration

In order to issue the static configuration commands on a LAP, youll  need to be running the CAPWAP Recovery Image on the AP.  In order to  accomplish this, well need to remove the full image already installed:

debug capwap con cli

delete /force /recursive flash:/c1140-k9w8-mx.124-18a.JA2

You can also free free to remove the configuration files as well:

delete /force flash:private-multiple-fs

delete /force flash:lwapp_reap.cfg

Be  sure to reload the LAP when complete.  Once reloaded, the AP will boot  the c1140-rcvk9w8-mx image, and then will allow for the static  configuration commands:

lwapp ap ip address
lwapp ap controller ip address
lwapp ap hostname
lwapp ap ip default-gateway
