AP Registration through L3 network

Dear All,

I have a 5500 controller & new 1262 LAP. It can join when configured in the vlan. But when I am configuring the switch connecting to the AP as trunk it fails to join the Controller.

Topology is like this:

AP->Access SW ->D.SW->C.SW->WLAN CONTROLLER

DHCP Server connected to the Core Switch.

The inter vlan 219 has been configured for WLAN/Interface in WLAN. Since we have 2 core SW we are running HSRP. Hence the 219 VIP is 172.16.219.254 which is also a default gateway for the clients.

There is a L3 port channel between distribution and core switches

Distribution switch has int Vlan 210 which is a management vlan.

Distribution is configured as a router for all the VLANs in access switches.

Dynamic routing is running between DSW & CSW.

The controller interface is in 200 VLAN with an IP Add of 172.16.200.1

Plz help me to configure AP management IP as the IP from management VLAN (configured in DSW)subnet & at the same time AP should get the IP ADD for the clients from the VLAN 219 (which is configured in core switch).

I configured the access switch interface as trunk but it doesn't work. When I configure the same interface as access port the AP acquires an IP and joins the controller. And when I try to give a static IP from the management subnet it starts searching for controller and fails.

You may also check the attachment for the network topology?
Plz help ...?

Thanks in advance?

Best Regards,
Taufeeq.

If you have a WLC, the AP must be configured as an access port.  The only time you configure the AP as Trunk is when the APs are configured as FlexConnect.

Re: AP Registration through L3 network

Hi,

Thanks for ur response.

I did it without APs as flexConnect.

Configured the switch port as trunk.

Configured static AP ip and controller IP in AP through console.

Lwapp ap IP address
Lwapp ap controller IP Add

Then everything working as expected ?

Regards,
Taufeeq.
