AP SSID naming

Just got some Cisco wireless kit which I have set up and would like to know how to go about configuring the access points. I have 2 Aironet 1100s AP's of which only one successfully allows Wireless laptops to log in. However once logged into our network I can roam between the 2 of them. Do the SSID's need to be different on each AP because I thought they may need to have the same name with identical secrurity settings

If you have configured them with different settings than the factory defaults, you may have to reset the APs back to factory defaults and reconfigure them. If you have not configured them at all and were just testing them with the laptops, then you should follow the configuration pages in the URL below. The APs should have the same SSID if you are wanting to roam from one AP to another.
