AP2600 fastethernet Oper state down

Hi all,

has anybody deployed AP2600/2602i over fastethernet Port ?
My AP's are still in REG state, admin up but oper state down, so no radio is up.
I am not sure what the problem is, but as I tried to look for any issues I read the quickstartguide again.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/2600/quick/guide/ap2600getstart.pdf

maybe with an important note to me:
The 2600 series access point requires a Gigibit Ethernet link to prevent the Ethernet port from becoming a bottleneck for traffic because wireless traffic speeds exceed transmit speeds of a 10/100 Ethernet port.

Due to my problem I think this could be also a reason for my APs are still in REG state vs. UP state.
My APs are connected to Cat3560 only Fastehernet, 802.3af PoE (15,4 Watt).
WLC5500 7.4 release.

Can anybody claify on that ? is this the reason ? Anybody running AP2602i via fastethernet only ?

Thanks and best regards
Alois

AP2600 fastethernet Oper state down

Thanks for the output, but it's incomplete.

Where's the output to the WLC command "sh sysinfo"?

Your AP is suppose to join the controller.  You can't change the configuration of the radios via the AP CLI.  You need to change the settings on the controller and the controller will push the configuration down to each individual AP.   This is the concept of the wireless LAN controller.

Yes, it can be done.

On the switch, post the following output:

1.  sh version;

2.  sh interface ;

3.  sh controller e ; and

4.  sh log

Just to add to Leo's post, it does work, because I have a client that has them connected to 10/100 ports.  You should check to make sure that the switch does negotiate enough power and you don't see IEEE when you look at the power inline command.  If you console into your ap, since your ap is showing status down, during the boot up, you will see the ap's radios go up and then down and you should also see a log stating why.  Typically its either not enough power, country domain issue or maybe you don't have any wlans configured.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: AP2600 fastethernet Oper state down

Hi,

thank's for reply.

I just watched for the PoE

Interface Admin  Oper       Power   Device              Class Max (Watts)

--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----

Fa0/10    auto   on         15.4    AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9   3     15.4

But now I have done a login into my AP. The admin state of my radios was admin down.
I manually made a no shut via AP-cli. The GUI/CLI config via NCS or WLC does not change anything.

I was also looking for any other configuration (global config ...) on why the radios by default are admin down, but found nothing.

lap201>sh ip int brief

Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol

BVI1                            YES DHCP   up                    up

Dot11Radio0                unassigned      NO  unset

Dot11Radio1                unassigned      NO  unset

GigabitEthernet0           unassigned      NO  unset  up                    up

GigabitEthernet0.1         unassigned      YES unset  up                    up

lap201>

Now my radios are up, but I have not checke with a wireless client.

When I configure the radios via wlc or ncs the state gets admin down, but I set state to enable.

When I reboot the ap it comes up with admin down again.

With my older systems (WLC4400/5500 7.0 and AP1142) I had not to login into each ap and configure a no shut.

What country code do you have enabled on the WLC?  Your AP is "E" so make sure the country code is set right.  Also on the CLI or the WLC try to issue:

config ap disable

config ap enable

show ap summary

Thanks,

Scott

Re: AP2600 fastethernet Oper state down

Hi Scott,

I tried follwing:
config ap disable

-> dot11 interfaces go down (admin down)

config ap enabpe

-> no reaction dot11 interfaces still down (admin down)

(wlc01) >show ap summary

Number of APs.................................... 4

Global AP User Name.............................. Not Configured
Global AP Dot1x User Name........................ Not Configured

ap-logg, because in the wlc-logg there is no entry:

Re: AP2600 fastethernet Oper state down

Hi Leo,

that's right, but as I mentioned there ist no reaction of the ap when I "config ap enable lap201", only a "config ap disable lap201" works.

But the show sysinfo was a good hint. As I watched the output I saw global disabled 802.11a and 802.11b network.

State of 802.11b Network......................... Disabled
State of 802.11a Network......................... Disabled

(wlc01) config>802.11a enable network
(wlc01) config>802.11b enable network

Think this solved my problem, on tuesday next week I will get more information if a client can connect to the wireless network.

Thank's and best regards

Alois
