APs connected directly to the POE ports on 2504

Hello,

In the document "Cisco 2500 Series Wireless Controller Deployment Guide" http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps11630/products_tech_note09186a0080b8450c.shtml Cisco states that " The Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports on the Cisco 2500 Series Wireless Controller will not support directly attached APs."

In the lab I have configured WLC with APs directly connected to PoE ports. Power to the APs was provided by the WLC. Schemes are added below. Both standard and nonstandard schemes works fine.

Also with the nonstandard deployment 2 additional ports would be saved on the DMZ switch.

What problems (security, performance, etc) would I face with  a nonstandard deployment? APs are connected to the PoE ports on the WLC.

Take a look at

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-11760

This is relevant to both the 21xx and the 2504 platforms.

To speak to what you are seeing, yes it will work, but there are significant issues that make it less than ideal.

Thank you for reply.

As non standard deployment can cause some issues, more standard deployment (image at the left) will be selected.

It works but it is not reliable.

Cisco decided to discontinue, due to power issues with N AP like 1252s and in newer model APs, older APs were having dhcp issues.

Thank you for reply.

Sometimes IPADs and only IPADs haven't received addresses from DHCP server.

This issue can be caused by connecting APs to the PoE ports?
