I have 3 APS (two 1242s and one 1142) and am trying to get them to connect to a WLC4402 running 5.2.157.0
The 1142 is registered ok but both 1242s are failing with the same error.
Both 1242s acquire an ip address via DHCP and both are pingable from the WLC but both report the same CAPWAP error on the console "not sending discovery request AP does not have an Ip!!"
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Which discovery method are you using to find the controller? Are you using DHCP option 43? DNS?

Could you console into the AP that won't join the WLC and type the following command:
lwapp ap controller ip address
Does this help?

Tried to enter the command, as suggested, but get the following message
NLLDMLABAP002#terminal editing
NLLDMLABAP002#
NLLDMLABAP002#lwapp ap controller ip address 145.26.197.102
ERROR!!! Command is disabled.

it's a bogus error message. You will see the AP gets DHCP, and then that error occurs. Usually it will still send the discover request via DNS first, then the configured option 43 address.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the response. I am trying to configure the controller addresss manually onto the APs but get the following message.
NLLDMLABAP002#terminal editing
NLLDMLABAP002#
NLLDMLABAP002#lwapp ap controller ip address 145.26.197.102
ERROR!!! Command is disabled.
Do you know how I can resolve this?

Here are some steps you can do to clear out the config... this was done on an 1131, but is the same for all:
First, check the flash:
lap_1131#dir
Directory of flash:/
2 -rwx 279 May 09 2008 11:52:20 +00:00 env_vars
4 -rwx 6168 May 09 2008 11:52:20 +00:00 private-multiple-fs
6 drwx 256 May 09 2008 11:49:05 +00:00 c1130-k9w8-mx.124-3g.JA2
5 drwx 128 Mar 01 2002 00:03:43 +00:00 c1130-rcvk9w8-mx
15998976 bytes total (10716672 bytes free)
Then delete the LWAPP image:
lap_1131#delete /r /f flash:/c11310-k9w8-mx.124-3g.JA2
Not the one the has rcv in it!!!!!!
Thirdly reload the AP:
lap_1131#reload
Then issue a clear lwapp private-config
You'll end up with a clear AP.
