Band select

Not applicable

I have several WLC 5508 with 7.2.110 firmware. My questions are:

(1) Is band select is enable by default on 7.2.110?

(2) All the variables settings on the band select, how do I set it up to make 5 ghz more preferable than 2 ghz?

Band select is disabled by default. If you want to use band select you need to make sure your WLAN allows both 2.4 and 5. So the policy is set to ALL. Clients will decide in the end if they want to use 5ghz or not. If you want to really enforce 5ghz only, set that on the WLAN. I personally don't enable that and my Mac will choose 2.4 most of the time.

Hello Scott,

May I ask if you still don't enable "Band Select" ?

Kind Regards,

Thomas

Hi Eric,

Band Select is not enabled by default.

What band select will do for you:

Your client is 802.11a/b/g/n capable and will send a probe request on both bands 2.4 and 5Ghz

With Band select turned on the AP will send only a probe response on the 5Ghz radio to this client.
