Hello,

We have purchased new Cisco WLC 2500 and AP 2600  devices.

We have been using Cisco APs in Stand-alone mode and i was pretty familiar with those AP nodes.  but with AP LWAP mode im totaly new i dont know how to setup and join it to my WLC. I installed DHCP server in my network and my LAP 2600 can take ip from dhcp server but it not geting registered to my WLC,  i dont know why,  and i could not find a good intruction on internet.

Can any one send my step by step guide on how to join Cisco AP to WLC please ?     i have alot experience on networking side but not on the Wireless world please help

other thing, my country Code is not included into the Cisco WLC,  What should i do ?   My country is Afghanistan but its code is not existed in WLC version 7.0

Re: Cisco LAP 2600 registration with WLC

The AP we are installing in Afghanistan.  but Afghanistan is not included on the list of regularity domains ,  that is why i chose US during the setup process.

And where is the WLC going to be installed?  If it's in the same country, then change the country to the same regulatory domain with your AP or the AP will never join the controller.

To solve this you have to add the regulatory domain on the wireless LAN controller in order to match the regulatory domain of the AP, the country does not matter as long as the regulatory domain is -E.

Look at the following table:

http://tools.cisco.com/squish/8FBBb

So if your access point is a AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9 you just have to enter let's say Italy in order to match the domain.

Try this (with the 7.4 code) and let us know.

Well if the APs are standalone, you need to convert them to lightweight. If they are already lightweight then the best thing is to put the APs in the same subnet as the management of the wlc. Make sure there is dhcp and the ap gets an IP address. This way the ap will join the wlc and download the code. You can then move the ap to any subnet you want because the ap already knows of the wlc.

Convert APs

Cisco LAP 2600 registration with WLC

What version of code is the 2500 running?  If 7.0 code, the 2600 APs aren't supported.

I think 7.2.110 or above is what is required on the 2500 controller....

Something's not right.  The time in your logs is incorrect.  Please post the following output:

1.  WLC:  sh sysinfo;

2.  WLC:  sh time;

3.  AP:  sh ip int brief;

4.  AP:  sh version; and

5.  AP:  sh inventory

Re: Cisco LAP 2600 registration with WLC

Product/Model Number                 : AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9

Go here.  The "-E" shows that this AP has the regulatory domain for Europe.

Configured Country............................... US  - United States

But your WLC is configured for the regulatory domain of the US, which should be "-A".

Exactly WHERE is the AP going to be installed?  What country?

Product Version.................................. 7.0.220.0

You need, a minimum, firmware 7.2.X for 2600 to be supported.

Yes after upgrading my code from 7.0 to 7.4 and changing the domain regularity it works now, the AP is joined into my WLC.  Thanks all

But a question: as i stated earlier i dont have experience in WLC wirless environment, previosly i had standalone APs and all my network clients were connecting through those APs,  but now how can i add those configurations into my LAPs.  because as i see there  my LAP config thorugh WLC there is no such options configuratable as  i had in Standalone APs.

any one can send me any link which illastrates configurations step wise will be appreciated. thanks

I want to have the same configurations setup (such as SSIDs.....)  which i had on standalone APs.  how can accomplish this though WLC & LAPs ?

Hall of Fame Super Silver

Cisco LAP 2600 registration with WLC

I would suggest you take a look at the v7.4 configuration guide as it is broken down to specific sections which can help you configure your WLC.  There are a lot of things and if this is your fist WLC deployment, can be very confusing.  Take a look at the WLAN configuration on this guide as you will have to cross reference what you have setup on your standalone AP.
