Cisco voice issues with 7.4.121.0 code with 3502i and 3602i (but not Cisco 1130 series)

We have a WiSM2 with 500 access points on it.  The voice WLAN ran fine with our 7925 series, until our upgrade to this code AND swapping out the 1130s for 3502 series.

 

We can take phones over to one of our other buildings that is on this controller that is running the 1130s still and the voice works as it should.  When we take the phones to the building with the 3502s, the voice gets choppy, etc.  The voice WLAN is 5GHz.

 

The only difference is the APs, the AP Group mapping to different L3 subnet, and the physical location of the building, which is 1000 feet away.  These buildings are quite large - hundreds of access points.

 

802.11n is not enabled.  We would assume that voice would be better on the 3502s and worse on the 1130s, however we are seeing the exact opposite.

 

I'm wondering if there's something we need to turn off/on on the WLC because of the difference in APs.

Pls attached "show wlan <wlan_id>" output to see.

Did you check the power level of these 3502s  in 5GHz band ?  Are they operating high power (level 1) or low power level (3-5).

Also did you notice any roaming issues with 3502s compare to 1131

I am not sure if there are

I am not sure if there are any 7920 phones.  I noticed that the bug that allows a WLAN Profile to bcast in both frequencies is there.  The wlan profile states 5GHz only.  It is bcasting in both freqencies.  Phones need to be set to 5GHz now.

Value of "6"?  This is wrong.  This should be "5".  This is particularly true when you are using anything newer than 7.4.100.X.

 

And what firmware is the phone running on?

The old (as in VERY, VERY, VERY old) Cisco documentation about wireless "best practice" has specified the 802.1P tag to be set as "6".  This, as it turns out to be, was a mistake or a "bug". 

 

So if you have this turned to "6" and you upgraded the firmware of your WLC, this will automatically change to "5".

A couple ideas:

Is your DHCP pool on a windows box, and if so, is the VOIP DHCP pool in the super scope?  I have run into issues, specifically with cisco phones if the DHCP pool is in the super score, especially when roaming.  

I would capture a debug of a phone roaming on the 1131's and then on the 3502's and compare.

I would check the phone firmwire.  I know you are running both 1131's and 3502's on 7.4.121.0, but still worth a look.
