Cisco WLC 5508 HA configuration with 50 AP licensing details

Hi All,

I need your help to understand the Licensing part in Cisco WLC 5508 HA configuration. Do I need to purchase additional 50 AP permanent license for HA configuration for this. Already I have HA SKU license in Standby controller and 50 AP evaluation license in Active controller. Below mentioned my license details. could you please validate and provide an update.

WLC1 - active  Controller configuration

Software version : 8.0.140.0Controller

License details : attached the screenshot

WLC2 - Standby Controller Configuration

Software version : 8.0.140.0Controller

License details : 

This is a Controller with HA-SKU license.
The AP base count license was inherited from the Primary Controller.

Any AP base count license on HA-SKU controller is disregarded.

If the secondary controller has 50 AP license, then this is enough to enable HA SSO.

In my case , Primary only I have 12+ 12 permanent license so I have to purchase additional 26  license for HA SSO configuration  ?.  Please advise .

The secondary controller must have 50 AP license or the HA SSO feature won't work.

The secondary controller must have 50 AP license or HA-SKU license.

HA SKU controller doesn't require any license.

Your HA SSO configuration will have 24 licenses right now.

Licensing for HA Pair

A HA Pair can be established between two WLCs running in these combinations:

• One WLC has a valid AP Count license and the other WLC has a HA SKU UDI
• Both the WLCs have a valid AP Count license
• One WLC has an Evaluation license and the other WLC has a HA SKU UDI or Permanent license

One WLC has a valid AP Count license and the other WLC has a HA SKU UDI

• HA SKU is a new SKU with a Zero AP Count License.
• The device with HA SKU becomes Standby the first time it pairs up.
• AP-count license info will be pushed from Active to Standby.

Hi,

1. If you have HA SKU license in one controller, you can use this controller only as secondary controller for HA SSO.

2. Primary controller can has from 1 to 500 licenses (for 5508) in HA SSO. Total amount of licences will be taken from Primary Controller.  

In your case, you have 12 Permanent licenses and HA SSO will have 12 licenses.
