I am attempting to start up a company, and one of our requirements is a large scale wireless network. I have been reading about various brands of wireless APs, Bridges, and clients but I seem to be having a difficult time finding accurate information. I have read from a company reselling Cisco Br-342 bridges that a range of 12 km can be achieved with a 7.4 Dbi Omni-Directional antenna. They have also stated that these BR-342 bridges can connect to both clients, and other bridges or APs at the same time.
I have been looking for information on the Cisco Aironet 350 series Bridge to determine if they possess the same capability. I have access to 5.5 dBi, 8 dBi, and 15.4 dBi omni directional antennas. I would like to know if the 350 series bridge can cover that distance with any of those antennas, while connecting to one main bridge, and connecting to clients. If there is a limit on the amount of clients that can be connected while the bridge is doing this, I would also like to know that limit.
If one bridge connecting to both clients and other bridges is not possible, please let me know of a configuration that would allow this feat. I have a distance requirement of at least the 12 km that the br-342 has been alleged to have.
Distnace coverage depends on many factors. Among them are data rate (bandwidth) desired, line of sight, antenna type, antenna cable length, and device receiving the transmission.
Cisco Wireless Bridges like 350 can cover upto 25 mile In an optimal installation. Bridges can associate to bridges and Access Points..but wireless clients can associate with the Access Points OR with bridge in access point mode only..
