Does anyone have the directions to reflash a 3502i ?

I believe I have two 3502i access points with corrupt flash.  During priming of 20 access points, I think something happened to the link to the controller or something since this batch produced two access points with what appears to be corrupt flash.

Does anyone have the directions to erase and reflash it?

This is what it is doing....

Thanks in advance!

console to the WAP and in enable mode enter the command "delete /f /r flash:update" and reboot.

Not sure that is working for this one. Do you have any other tricks up your sleeve?

Thanks!

Re: Does anyone have the directions to reflash a 3502i ?

It looks like you might need to reformat the flash on the APs -- if you can login to it while it is booted up we can try the following procedure:

ap#debug capwap console cli

ap#format flash:

After it's finished, we want to load the 3500 recovery image back on the AP using this command:

archive download-sw /force /over tftp:///ap3g1-rcvk9w8-tar.124-23c.JA3.tar

However, if the AP is rebooted after reformatting, then it will go to the bootloader menu, at which point we have another process to follow:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_21a_JA1/configuration/guide/scg12421aJA1-chap22-trouble.html#wp1048378

If neither of these options work, then you should probably open up a TAC service request.

Loading "flash:/ap3g1-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA/ap3g1-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA"...########

####################################

Press escape twice while booting:

format flash:

Now it has empty flash...

Downloaded from CCO, placed on tftp server... (am wondering if I used the wrong one)

Unable to create temp dir "flash:/update"

1.  A LWAP/CAPWAP AP, fresh from a box, has an "RCV" image in it.  IT's not a full version but it's an IOS allowing the AP to bootup, perform a few basic function and look for the WLC.  When the WAP finds the WLC, the WLC will "push" the full IOS to the WAP.

2.  During the "push" a sub-directory is created.  This sub-directory is called "update".

3.  During the "push" the WLC will un-compress the full IOS into the "update" sub-directory.  Once this is complete the script will change the boot variable of the WAP and rename the "update" sub-directory to the correct naming convention.  Once this is done, the script will cause the WAP to reboot and load the new IOS.

Now, if for some unknown circumstances, step 3 isn't complete, then the "update" sub-directory is present, the WAP boots up to the "RCV" image.  Once it finds the WLC, the controller can't push the full IOS because the "update" sub-directory is present.

This is what you are facing.  The easiest way is to delete the "update" sub-directory from the command line using the enable command "delete /f /r flash:update" and reboot the WAP.

Re: Does anyone have the directions to reflash a 3502i ?

There were three access points that got corrupted somehow.

I used this command:

delete /f /r flash:/ap3g1-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA/ap3g1-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA

Two of them came back to life. Am still working on the third.
