dual channel connectivity

Hello,

I have two doubts for wireless connectivity,

1. Is it possible that a laptop at one location only uses 2.4Ghz frequency & at some other location uses 5Ghz. From my knowledge, any end node should have 5Ghz capability if it has to use that band.

Is this dependent on the AP providing connectivity or the laptop itself?

2. How is  Fast roaming configured and what is the use of it.

Thanks in advance!

The device chooses what band it will connect to. It doesn't make a difference if its 2.4 or 5. Unless your using band select on one site and not the other, but then again, its the clients decision.

Fast roaming is only required if your doing 802.1x.

thanks Scott.

What is band select and who determines it , where is it set upon.

It depends on the code on the WLC if that's what you have. It under the WLAN advanced tab in the GUI. Autonomous doesn't have that feature. In the end, the client will make the decision anyways.
