Emergency Image Version?

I followed the Cisco guide for upgrading my WLC to 6.0 code. It tells me to download and install the SWLC3750K9-5-2-157-0-ER.aes file to install the bootloader. I noticed this file was not listed under the 6.0 version, but was found under the 5.2 folder in downloads. Anyways, all went well with the upgrade, and now I can see "Emergency Image Version - 5.2.157.0" listed on the summary page f my controller. My questions:

1. My other controller also has 6.0 software installed, but it's Emergency Image Version shows "N/A". I think that tells me that whoever upgraded to 6.0 didn't also install the BOOT file? Is this a problem?

2. What is the purpose of this file?

Thanks -

Re: Emergency Image Version?

ER stands for Emergency Release.

The Wireless LAN Controller Bootloader (ppcboot) stores a copy of the active primary and the backup release. If the primary release becomes corrupted, you can use the Bootloader to boot with the backup release.

If you dont have a bootloader obviously you wont be able to do so and you will need to re-image it.

Re: Emergency Image Version?

When you say "Primary and backup release" - are you talking about the controller software (i.e. version 6.0 or 5.2)? Do/should the primary and backup version be different (i.e. use the newest version, keep one rev back)?

And finally, does that mean the controller I have with "N/A" listed in the Emergency Release field needs to have the ER.aes software installed onto it?
