How to alert guest users about the lifetime of their accounts

Hi,

I am a newbie to cisco world of wireless.

In our organization we have a 5508 WLC.

We create guest account (local net users) for our guests  with a max life time of 30 days.

Sometimes, the guest stays in our office for more than 30 days. And obviously, the wireless account doesnt work for them after 30 days.

Is there any way that we can alert users (via a pop-up or email) when they login to the network everytime about the remaining lifetime?

We dont want to create permanent accounts for our guests.

What are our options?

Many thanks for your help.

Many Thanks,

Pete.

How to alert guest users about the lifetime of their accounts

Hi Peter,

By design, the WLC does not carry an option to alert the guest user.

1) You can write a note/alert on the Web-auth splash page that " the account will be vaild for 30 days from the day of creation ".

2) A external script can be used to do this job ( You may have to spend quality time with dev and testing ).

There is not other product that can do alerting. You would have to create some sort of tool/DB that you would have to enter the users email and maybe the expiration and that would count down and send an email, but that would not be a product but something created.

How to alert guest users about the lifetime of their accounts

Peter,

Some companies actually use the lobby ambassador and print out the login info with other information that the user might need.  They have printed it out on paper or behind the user's guest badge.  I would think that building a tool to send them an e-mail or SMS might be difficult because the person creating it would have to basically enter the data in the WLC/PI or the tool.

Thanks,

Scott
