How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - Cisco w1941

Hi,

Can someone tell me the CLI configuration of the assinging the password for SSID created on embedded AP in cisco 1941.

If so, then can we use WEP encryption on cisco 1941 AP ??

One more thing, I am getting message on SSID icon that "Information sent over this network might be visible to others" what does this mean and how to resolve this problem. Thanks

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

Gotcha!!!

The command is..

encryption [vlan vlan-id] key 1-4 size { 40 | 128 } encryption-key [transmit-key]

We need to map the Vlan for each SSID..

So the comand will be..

encryption (vlan vlan#) key 1 size 40bit 7 F3546E765203 transmit-key

We need to make sure that... under the SSID, we have mapped the coresponding vlan..

that is.. if you have a SSID by name XYZ and you want the clients to get the IP from vlan 10.. then the config will be..

en
config t
dot11 ssid XYZ
vlan 10
auth open
mbssid guest-mode
end

config t
int dot11 0
encryption vlan 10 mode wep mandatory
encryption 10 key 1 size 40bit 7 F3546E765203 transmit-key
no shut
end

and followed by the subinterface commands.. and the same should be done for all the other SSIDs with different VLAN mappings and keys.

let me know how this works out for you!!

Surendra

CLI configuration of the assinging the password for SSID created on embedded AP in cisco 1941. If so, then can we use WEP encryption on cisco 1941 AP ??

ANS -

en

config t

int dot11 0 or int dot11 1

encryption vlan mode wep mandatory

encryption key 1 size 128 or 40 (if used 128 bit then password will be 26 bit lenght and if 40 bit then its 10 bit password)
end
wr

the above will solve the first issue..

I am getting message on SSID icon that "Information sent over this network might be visible to others" what does this mean and how to resolve this problem.

ANS -

This means that the SSID is getting broadcasted and any one who can scan for wireless signal can connect to it if the credentilas are known.. if you done want to broadcast then the person who connects to wireless should know the SSID to connect.. to make it invisible.. the below commend will do it..

en
config t
int dot11 0 or int dot11 1
no guest-mode
end
wr

This will solve the second question..

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

Dear, Thanks for your quick response.

For the first question, let me tell you i did the same it is asking now the password.

We dont need to change any setting on dot11 ssid Guest interface currently there is authentication open command.

dot11 ssid Guest

   vlan 101

   authentication open

   mbssid guest-mode

Secondly, how to configure WAP for SSID in embedded AP - Cisco 1941. Thanks

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

The procedure you told for wep configuration is as below:

ap(config-if)#encryption vlan (vlan#) mode wep mandatory

ap(config-if)#encryption key 1 size 40 0 1234567891

It does ask for password but it doesn't allow to connect.

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

i have 4 ssid and i have managed to broadcast them. I have created 4 separate vlans on router. on ap side, 4 interface Dot11Radio0.xxx and 4 interface GigabitEthernet0.xxx. Everything is working and Internet is also working.

Now i have to put different password (WEP) for each ssid. how to put encryption command each ssid. I put the 2 commands you gave me on every vlan number but configuration shows only one time  encryption key 1 size 40bit 7 F3546E765203 transmit-key

Configuration is as below:

encryption vlan 1xx mode wep mandatory

!

encryption vlan 1xy mode wep mandatory

!

encryption vlan 1yy mode wep mandatory

!

encryption vlan 1yz mode wep mandatory

!

encryption key 1 size 40bit 7 F3546E765203 transmit-key

!

ssid xxx

!

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

I again did the same and now i worked out. Don't know what was missing. Thanks

I have 4 ssid. I need to put 2 encryption by WEP and 2 by WPA.

Can you tell me how to configure WPA for the same. What are the options to configure WPA

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

Thanks for the ratings!!

If we are using WPA.. then no need to configure WEP encryption... the encryption should be either

1>> CHIPHERS TKIP

or

2>> CIPHERS AES

so the configuration will be..

en

config t

dot11 ssid

auth open

vlan X

auth key-management WPA (version 1 or 2)

end

wr

[you can configure the WPA version by using the question mark after WPA and  select the appropriate, version 1 then use TKIP and if VERSION 2 then  use AES]

en

config t

encryption valn X mode ciphers TKIP (WPA) or encryption valn X mode ciphers AES (WPA-v2)

no shut

end

wr

the above wil do it..

Re: How to assign Password for different SSID in embedded AP - C

WPA is the Authentication... not the encryption... WEP is the encryption not authentication..
