How to mount an AP1142n above a suspended ceiling?

Hello,

Interested to find out what:

  1) LWAP adapter

  2) Mounting hardware/bracket(s)

were used for any LWAP 1142n deployments above a suspended ceiling.  Our installation will not work with the included t-rail mounting hardware and are looking for alternative mounting options above a suspended ceiling.  Cisco hardware guide mentions an optional adapter to be used with a Erico Caddy 512A t-bar adapter.  Has anyone had experience with this option?

thanks,

james

Re: How to mount an AP1142n above a suspended ceiling?

I've used the Erico 512A bracket in a brand new office we built.  For aesthetics, they didn't want the APs visible.  Anyhow, they aren't as slick as the T-bar hangers that are included with the APs, but they do the job.  Make sure you get the 512A which has an 8" height that you can adjust so the AP isn't hitting the top of the ceiling tile.

Oberon Wireless also makes very nice enclosers for different AP models if you are wanting something a little nicer and easier to access with a lock and key.

Thanks for the response.

A follow-up question.

Were the tiles used in from your installation, acoustic style tiles?  I was interested to know if there would be any signal degradation through the tiles. (versus mounting below the tiles with the t-rail adapters).

thanks,

Yes, they are just your standard accoustic office tiles.  We weren't able to notice any signal degradation placing the APs above the tiles, but watch out for ceiling tiles that might have a foil lining on the top of them.  The foil would wreak havoc with your signals.

Also, I've got several 1250 access points that do not have internal antennas.  I'm using TerraWaves Above-Ceiling antennas for these models and they work great too: http://www.terra-wave.com/shop/5-ghz-antennas-5-ghz-above-ceiling-tile-antennas-c-33_62_63.html.html.html?page=1&sort=2a
