Re: increase signal strength

You can do this via GUI or CLI.

First of all check what is the current power level of your 3600 AP radio bands. You can set it to maximum (level 1) which will override the DTPC values.

(WLC) > show ap config 802.11a

.

.

Tx Power

Num Of Supported Power Levels ............. 5

      Tx Power Level 1 .......................... 14 dBm

      Tx Power Level 2 .......................... 11 dBm

      Tx Power Level 3 .......................... 8 dBm

      Tx Power Level 4 .......................... 5 dBm

      Tx Power Level 5 .......................... 2 dBm

      Tx Power Configuration .................... AUTOMATIC

Current Tx Power Level .................... 4

Tx Power Assigned By ...................... DTPC

(WLC) >show ap config 802.11b

.

.

    Tx Power

Num Of Supported Power Levels ............. 7

      Tx Power Level 1 .......................... 22 dBm

      Tx Power Level 2 .......................... 19 dBm

      Tx Power Level 3 .......................... 16 dBm

      Tx Power Level 4 .......................... 13 dBm

      Tx Power Level 5 .......................... 10 dBm

      Tx Power Level 6 .......................... 7 dBm

      Tx Power Level 7 .......................... 4 dBm

      Tx Power Configuration .................... AUTOMATIC

Current Tx Power Level .................... 7

Tx Power Assigned By ...................... DTPC

Here how you can change it Tx power of a individula AP

(WLC) >config 802.11a txPower ?

global         Configures all 802.11a Cisco APs.

ap             Configures one 802.11a Cisco APs.

(WLC) >config 802.11a txPower ap ?

     Enter Cisco AP name

(WLC) >config 802.11a txPower ap ap ?

global         Enables auto-RF.

  Enter transmit power level

(WLC) >config 802.11a txPower ap 1

(WLC) >config 802.11b txPower ap   1

You can change it via GUI as well.(Wireless -> 802.11a/n| 802.11b/g/n -> AP -> Configure -> Tx Power Level Assignment ->Custom -> Level 1)

increase signal strength

1.   Do you have autonomous or controller-based access points?

2.   Describe how you deployed and installed your APs?  Are they hidden inside ceiling spaces?

3.  What signal strengths are you getting (802.11a) when you are, say, 10 metres away from the AP?
