Re: Lightweight to Autonomous

Hi Robert,

1st     Configure your PC with one of this IP address 10.0.0.2 ==> 10.0.0.30 and use direct ethernet connection with your AP

2nd     Download the IOS file from Cisco

3rd     Rename the file with one of this name:

c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200  series access point

c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series  access point

c1140-k9w7-tar.default for an 1140 series access point

c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series  access point

c1250-k9w7-tar.default for a 1250 series  access point.

4th     Use you favourite tftp server program and put the renamed file on the correct folder.

5th     Unplug the power on the AP and press the MODE button, hold...

6th     Plug the power and wait about 20-30 sec with the MODE button pressed, release the button

(You could see the in the tftp Server log your AP going and also in the terminal)

That's all, wait for the AP finish the downloading process and reboot

I hope this helps

Regards

Hi Robert,

Do you have a WLC or not?

Re: Lightweight to Autonomous

Not for this project.  I need to use this AP as a complete standalone solution.

Re: Lightweight to Autonomous

Hi !

I alway use the image recovery described at this www page :

http://www.ciscosystems.com.ro/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_3g_JA/configuration/guide/s43trb.html#wp1038660

RE-name the ios file on the tftp server (eg 10.0.0.10) to c1240-k9w7-tar.default and then press and hold the MODE key for 20-30 seconds.

Alternate very useful method :

Console into the AP :

1.Install an external TFTP tool such as tftpd32 tool from http://tftpd32.jounin.net/

2. Make sure you set the IP address for the AP if not set.

3. Download the IOS image onto the tftp's root directory. Use www.cisco.com-->support-->download software-->wireless software--> AP .-> Select IOS software.

4. Connect the ethernet port on AP to your TFTP Server ( Laptop )

5. On AP, type

debug capwap console cli

debug capwap cli no-reload

archive download-sw /overwrite /force-reload tftp://192.168.5.12/c1140-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA.tar

default password: Cisco

Thanks Tuhin for sharing alternate method for conversion 5+

Re: Lightweight to Autonomous

I have a 1242 and have followed the step you advised, but I'm not getting anywhere.

the dialog  box of copying file is showing up in my tftp21 but after couple seconds I got an error message.

- I can't console into the AP either.

any suggestion.

Just had the same problem with tftp32d.  Not sure what is up with it maybe a bug but I was able to get SolarWinds tftp to work.  I think you can get a free version off their site if you need it.
