True Line-of-Sight includes Earth Curve and at least 60% of the Fresnel Zone.
Obstacles in the Fresnel Zone will create reflections of the signal, which will 'knock out' the true signal - the more reflective the obstruction, the worse it is.
The height of the Earth Curve is simply a function of the distance between two points. The height of the Fresnel Zone is based on both distance and frequency (lower frequencies have larger Fresnel Zones).
