When I am tftping the new IOS it suddenly times out, I then see that the static ip address that I set on Gi0 is gone and "ip address dhcp client-id GigabitEthernet0" is back in the interface config. Question is how do I stop this happening so I can complete IOS tftp transfer

Do this:
Note some of these are hidden commands, Meaning TAB does not work :)
on LWAPP AP:
debug capwap console cli -CLI Mode
debug capwap cli no-reload -stops it reloading
**Assign IP:
capwap ap ip address <IP> <SM>
capwap ap default-gateway <IP of your TFTP Server/typically your PC>
**Transfer
archive /download-sw tftp://<IP>/filename.tar

Set IP on Interface Gi0 and also configure default gateway.
If its changing frequently then configure above steps and save it.

Thank you Isagabrillo, thats fixed it, for two days I've been struggleing with that!
The no-reload command I think was the fixer!
