Hi all

We are looking at a new wireless controller for one of our sites, we currently use Aruba in one of them, and we use mac address authentication so they dont get prompted, it jsut automatically connects which is great! however I see that the Cisco controllers dont offer this, is this true? and if so, is there no support for it or future plans ?

cheers

Carl

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? In your Aruba install your not using any encryption but just Mac authentication or your are using Mac authentication to bypass a captive portal page? You can bypass the webauth page with MAC address that are entered in the WLC.

I think we are using Mac Auth to bypass the captive portal page, basically under the username and password we just add the users mac address in both boxes and it allows them onto the network and doesnt bring up captive portal.

can we do the same with the Cisco WLC's? and if so How do we do it ?

cheers

Carl

Don't remember what code it started, but here is a link:

I hope Mac authentication is supported in cisco controller . Kindly find the link for more clarification as Configuring MAC Authentication Failover to 802.1X Authentication . please go to the page no. 566.

Carl,

Just to add to what I have stated, Aruba and Cisco has different way of achieving this. On the wlc's these users have to hit a WebAuth portal page in which the user has to enter credential. Only on this type of captive portal page can you bypass the page with MAC address filter. There is no checkbox like in Aruba. On the WLC you just have to enter the MAC address of the device that needs to bypass the captive portal.
