Managing bandwith for different SSIDs on CT-2504

Hello, everybody!

I want to create two SSID for teachers (administration) and students, with high and low priority respectively. How can I set bandwith priority for a certain SSID on CISCO 2504 controller?

Many thanks in advance,

Ilya

Hi,

Yes with the WLC you can go in and create bandwidth limitations,  that are either linked to a user profile, or you can link them to a QoS  Profile.

If  you link to the QoS Profile, say Bronze, then all you need to do is set  the Student WLAN to be in the Bronze Profile in QoS.  If you want to  allow teachers to get more than "x" bandwidth, you would do it to a teachers profile.

******Either way you do this, it only rate limits from the WLC down.  ******  It is still possible to saturate a link from the edge to the  WLC.  So you may want to do some traffic shaping at the edge.\

For the multiple subnet questions, yes you could do that as well..  You'd want to create the interfaces for the new subnets, then use AP  groups to link the SSID to a different interface, all based on the  location of the AP.

WLC code 7.3 onwards you can do bi-directional rate limiting. Pls refer below deployment guide of that feature

yes Qos is the best solution if you are not using any Bandwidth mgt tools.

You are limited on the 2504 when it comes to using QoS profiles or bi-directional rate limiting.  In other words, if you have a

WLCs 5500 Series, 7500/8500 Series, and WiSM-2, you couls do this.  The only thing you can do is rate limit on your layer 3, but you will not be able to do much from the 2504.

Thanks,
