In mesh you have a RAP (root ap) and a MAP (mesh ap). The RAP is connected to the network switch and the MAP links up to the RAP using the 5ghz radio. The distance is from RAP to MAP.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply.

So if we use WLC  then is it necessary to have RP in the network?

How can i check in GUI or command line if we have RP in the netwrok?

Thanks

MAhesh

You don't need a rap unless your doing mesh.

Look at your AP model... Mesh APs are 15xx model. Also the mode of the ap would say bridge. Most mesh is for outdoor also.

Hi Scott,

Many thanks

Mahesh

RAP-to-MAP ratio—Recommended maximum ratio is 20 MAPs per RAP.

  * AP-to-AP distance—A spacing of no more than of 2000 feet (609.6 meters) between each mesh access point is recommended. When you extend the mesh network on the backhaul (no client access), use a cell radius of 1000 feet (304.8 meters).
