Mobility Groups and High Availability with WLC 5508s and 1240 APs
I have some questions about mobility groups and high availability in the context of WLC 5508s and 1240 APs. We have two 5508s with identical images and licenses deployed in our environment. A mobility group has been configured between them and it is up and running. The configs are nearly identical; the only exception being the IP addresses associated with the interfaces. There are 23 APs in our environment, and all are registered with the primary WLC. I have configured HA on the HA tab of all the APs registered with the primary WLC. All of the APs are operating as lightweight APs. None of the APs have registered with the secondary WLC. Here are my questions:
1. Should the APs register with both WLCs given the above scenario?
2. If the APs do not register with both WLCs, what needs to be done to get them to register with the second WLC?
3. Will the APs register with the second WLC only if the primary fails?
4. Is there a way to verify the HA config prior to a failover test?
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. If you have a link to documentation that explains the relationship between mobility groups and HA, please post it. I checked CCO, but could not find any such document.
PS: Here are the pertinent sections of the WLC config
Transferring Crash file from standby: Login to the Active WLC in HA.
