Hi,

We have to implement wireless lan with WRT5RG devices.

We have the reason to use only this model.

Our question is how much area one accesspoint can cover. Based on that we will decide how many access points we have to purchase?

Regards

Hi Skrao,

Basically, an AP can easily cover area in the radius of 100m, BUT the coverage and signal strength & quality will depend on what you material have in that particular area, e.g concrete wall, metal barriers, interference due to microwave oven usage in your pantry, and so on.

What you need to do site survey to determine the best place you should install/mount the AP. This allows you to determine how many APs are required in one floor or area. You probably need only 1 or 2 APs in your auditorium area compared to 3 or 4 APs in an area where you have lots of partition, metal cabinets and so on.

Even in the range covered by Cisco AP in the doc is based on open area test result or with minimum obstruction.
