Oper status down

HI,

I recently bought a Cisco 2504 Wireless Controller and a couple of access points (Cisco 1600 Series). Initially the controller had the 7.0.x.x firmware and from what i read on Cisco website it seems that this version is incompatible with my access points, so I updated the firmware on the controller to the latest version (7.4.110.0.). The access points were intially autonomous, so I installed the latest conversion to lightweight iOS image (ap1g2-rcvk9w8-tar.152-4.JA1). All work beautiful and I was happy until i discovered that after  the acces points succesfully join the controller the radio interfaces won't come up. On the controller i get the following messages:

AP's Interface:1(802.11a) Operation State Down: Base Radio MAC:7c:95:f3:6c:c6:30 Cause=Unknown Reset Status:NA

AP's Interface:0(802.11b) Operation State Down: Base Radio MAC:7c:95:f3:6c:c6:30 Cause=Unknown Reset Status:NA

And here's what the acces point displays in logging mode:

*Sep 27 06:35:01.169: %DHCP-6-ADDRESS_ASSIGN: Interface BVI1 assigned DHCP address 10.10.10.1, mask 255.255.255.0, hostname APc08c.601f.260d

I must metion that all settings on the controller are fine (the access points interfaces are set to enable), but they just don't want to come up. I'm completely baffled by this problem and I don't know what to do next ? Can someone explain what's happeining ?

PS: The access point are powered by their standard AC-DC power supply (not over PoE).

Re: Oper status down

Enable these network globally & run "show sysinfo" again & make sure these network are enabled. Without this your AP radio won't come up

Here is two WLC CLI command to enable it (in GUI, Wireless -> 802.11a/n|802.11b/g/n -> Network -> Network Status)

config 802.11b enable network

config 802.11a enable network

Did you try to manually enable the radio interfaces of the AP

(Wireless -> Radio ->802.11a|802.11b -> your AP ->configure in GUI ) or following two commands in WLC CLI

config 802.11b enable

config 802.11a enable

Post the ouput of the below WLC CLI command with respect to your AP

show ap config 802.11b

show ap config 802.11a

Post the following output:

1.  WLC:  sh sysinfo;

2.  WLC:  sh time;

3.  AP:  sh version;

4.  AP:  sh inventory; and

5.  AP:  sh ip interface brief

Thanks for replies! One of the first thing that I did was to configure a NTP server, so the controller is time synchronized. Aslo I manually enable each radio interface.

Thanks for the outputs, "show ap config 802.11b" showed output how it should be.

Is it posible to power the AP from a PoE switch to ruleout power is not the issue here ?

Also chechk whether you have connected external antenna properly since it is external antenna AP model.

Unfortunately I don't have a PoE capable switch, if I had one I would test it before I even begin thinking posting here. Maybe I can connect one Acces Point to the controller using port number 3 or 4, which are PoE ports.

PS: Antennas are properly fitted and are Cisco also. In standalone mode the radio interfaces were up and running.

Can you confirm you've configured the timezone on your WLC?

Re: Oper status down

Initilally I configured everything, including dynamic interfaces, SSIDs, time zone and other settings regarding tuning the radio interfaces. After I came across this problem I thought I messed something in the configuration so I factory reset the WLC and made a basic configuration. Now I don't have the time zone configured, is this a problem ?; because I don't think so.

Later edit:

Depends on the firmware.  Can you post the output to the following WLC commands:

1.  sh sysinfo; and
