Planning to replace Air-lap1142N with 3702i

I am planning to replace the 1142N access points that are currently running on the WISM controllers, with the 3702i on 5508 HA pair.  I will be replacing a total of 400 AP and adding 125 more AP's.  What will be the best road map to follow to successfully implement this?

This is what I am thinking:

- Complete the survey

 - Deploy the 5508 WLCs and make them the primary

- Replace AP's in phases (I am assumming since the 5508 are the primary, the AP's will connect to this)

Thank you for your assistance on this.

Do a wireless site survey

  • Do a wireless site survey with an emphasis on voice-grade WiFi and using 802.11a.  Make sure you also use a 3700 for the wireless site survey.
  • WiSM-2 or 5508 - Your choice.  You'll need it.
  • Wait for the result of the wireless site survey.  There could be places where the existing AP will need to be replaced and relocated.

adding to Leo, check your

adding to Leo, check your switches POE capability as well. These new 3700 require POE+ to fully functional.

Normally upgrading to 802.11ac AP involve upgrade of your access layer infrastructure as well.
