"how to" seamlessly roam with a 7920 IP Phone

Hello all !

I have ordered

2x 7920 WLAN IP Phones

3x AP1131AG AP's

What else do I need except for access to a Call Manager to get wireless IP Phone roaming to work ?

I also have a 3750 PoE switch if this helps....

You should setup the AP's to use a WDS infrasturcture, this way all the keying/authenticatio that happens can be passed to the next AP when the phone roams.

Here is a link to the configuration guide for the 1130AG, and how it pretains to WDS.

Voice is very sensative when compared to data. Your site survey will be CRITICAL with this setup.

Recently several of us responded to a gentleman take a look.

No its not voice related however you will still need to address the same points. In some instances more so.

I will only copy and paste a part of what i said.

1.) How many users am i going to serve?

2.) What areas am i serving and which am i not?

3.) What are the bandwidth considerations?

4.) Are other APs covering this area and if so what channels?

If your user runs into a null area, he wont be calling your cell for obvious reasons, he will stop by your desk. :)

Re: "how to" seamlessly roam with a 7920 IP Phone

It is basically only for up to 15 users in the ENTIRE building !

What I have just now are 3 AP's along 1 corridor (1130AG's)

and after configuring the AP & 7920's with CCKP EAP (not fast) and only open authentication the 7920's do not get authenticated ......

but without CCKP and EAP but only Mac authentication then authentication works....

site survey is good...... with the radios I have no problems !

I just need a config I can use with the AP's (I have read about 3 PDF's and have 3 ciscopress books on order)

so all in all I just need a working config for WDS CCKP & (fast-)EAP please because no handover or authentication is working otherwise....

Yes, I am a noob when it comes to WLAN !

Re: "how to" seamlessly roam with a 7920 IP Phone

ok

It is lkike this now !

WDS I got working on the same AP as the Radius now !

I can make calls now over both my 7920's

but secure roaming (CCKM) stops everything from working !

After CCKM is on nothing can authenticate.

I have tried to debug but there are no signs of the 7920 trying to authenticate at all!!!

Please help !

Re: "how to" seamlessly roam with a 7920 IP Phone

the phones must use AKM....have you tried this ? and this is only for L2 not L3.

Configs I can post next week when back @ work

Re: "how to" seamlessly roam with a 7920 IP Phone

I finally got it working. My problem was with WDS. My windows laptops are authenticating to a IAS server. My 7920 phone is using EAP-FAST, authenticating to the local radius server in the access point.

When I tried to configure WDS to authenticate the phone locally, it would break the laptop authentication. Finally got it working with the following config:

wlccp ap username wdsadmin password 7 XXXXXXXXXXXXX

wlccp authentication-server infrastructure method_WDSAUTH

wlccp authentication-server client leap method_Phone

wlccp authentication-server client any method_IAS

wlccp wds priority 254 interface BVI1
