Radio G being recognized as Radio B

I have a wireless controller 5508 with a few 1240 AP's connected. AP's are set up as flexconnect both local switching and local authentication. Clients connected to the AP's are displayed using radio b instead of radio g on the controller. Connection speed and data rates confirms they are using radio G. If I set the APs to local switching and central authentication the radio displays correctly on the controller. I've been doing a lot of research and cannot find anything regarding this issue. Is this a bug or am I missing a configuration somewhere?

My AP software version is 7.5.102.0, boot version 12.4.13.0, IOS version 12.4(25e)Jan1, and mini IOS version 3.0.51.0.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well one of the reasons maybe is the fact that you are using 1240's. I don't see many 1240's in any of my installs and typically I'm replacing these with newer access points. Could just be an issue with that model of AP as I don't see that with any other 802.11n AP.

Might be a bug on the GUI for that AP model... from your post, they are connected at OFDM rates:

Agree with Scott.  The command output shows 54.0 Mbps rate.  So it should be 802.11g.

But wait, there's more ... Look at the line below, "Supported Rates", it's blank.

For failed to disclose the wireless card brand/model.  I hope it's not an Intel N.

What is an Intel N?

But with an AP that is authenticated centrally it displays the supported rates:

You can also look at the rate the client device is connected to. 802.11b is limited up to 11mbps with rates of 1, 2, 5.5 and 11. If you see anything higher rates you are using 802.11g

Have you seen that bit where you have a value at "Current Rate" but nothing on "Supported Rates"?  I haven't.

I have not and I play around with data rates like there is no tomorrow. Whatever I have enabled is the only rates I have seen clients negotiate at.

Thank you all for replying.

I have checked the client and the client is showing the correct speed (G). As long as it's getting the correct speed I'm fine, it's just that it would be nice to report something back to my boss, i.e. a bug, or something being worked on, or it's normal, etc. I'm just surprise that no one else is seeing this.

Yah I know the AP models are older, we're hoping to get newer ones in the near future. But for now, I'll just blame it on the 1240's.

I would:).... If you really want to dig in more, maybe open a TAC case and see what they say. Hopefully they don't just say upgrade your WLC code:)
