Radius port number in WLC

Hi,

End user has APs config with Radius server, working fine

server 10.42.1.21 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646

server 10.36.1.46 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646

In some weeks all APs will be migrated to WLC.

My doubt is regarding the config in RADIUS Athentication Server port number field. There is only one option for adding.

Which port number should I use? , When a new server is added always show 1812 port number; documentation states that is for authentication and 1813 for accouting.

regards

You can use either. I've been using 1812 and 1813 though. Anyways, when you migrate to the wlc, you don't need the APs as aaa clients in radius. Your wlc will need to be added as a aaa client. Makes sense?

Thanks,

Radius port number in WLC

No problem... good luck on the migration... The WLC sooooo much easier:)

Re: Radius port number in WLC

server 10.42.1.21 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646

server 10.36.1.46 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646

From the above configuration, it looks the RADIUS server is configured with port numbers 1645 and 1646,

Shoudlnt he follow the same ports for adding RADIUS to the WLC,

NikhiL:

usually radius servers will support both pair of ports 164x and 181x.

Unless it is very old radius then it may not support 1812/1813. But normally radius servers should support both pairs of ports.

I don't think you can change this from Radius server!

Re: Radius port number in WLC

Amjad,

I have seen in 4.2 ACS that we have to mention the port number for the ACS, but havent seen such an option in 5.*

Thanks

Re: Radius port number in WLC

I believe ACS 5.x uses both without having to choose.

Re: Radius port number in WLC

Yes. You are right.

I just checked with 4.2 version and from under the AAA server you can change the ports for ACS. However, you have only two pairs to configure.

in ACS 5.2 I can see that you can choose the port number for the external raidus server you configure. only one pair is available to configure here, not two like 4.2 version.

There could possibly some way to change the radius ports in ACS 5.x if it is available for external radius.

Thanks for pointing to this

Amjad
