restrict time access on Aps

Hi ,

We have about 30 x Wireless APs mixture of AIRCAP3502I-N-K9 and AIRLAP1142N-N-K9.

controlled by 4 x WLC controllers installed in Core Cisco6500.

We want to be able to turn off say 3 x APs in some area from midnight to 6am in the morning.

I have checked the WLC GUI interfaces but can not see there is any option.

Any advise is much appreciated.

Re: restrict time access on Aps

You have two choices:

1.  Use WCS to time when you want the radios or SSID's to go up or down;

2.  If your PoE switches are Cisco then you can enable EnergyWise.

If you don't have either and you have MS AD, then you can enable the time ranges on a per-user account.

Unfortunately you cannot do this from the WLC directly. If you have WCS/NCS installed you can setup a scheduled configuration task that turns off the desired APs radios via an AP Configuration Template, then create another scheduled configuration task that enables those APs radios again with another AP Configuration Template.

We have PoE switches so EnergyWise is the solution for us now.

We can not use MS AD because the APs are for guests.

Thinking of buy WCS or NCS but we have only around 50 APS - is it too small for WCS/NCS?

Thanks guys for your help - very much appreciated.

Thanks for the ratings.

WCS is now being superseded by the NCS.  If you won't go beyond 100 WAPs then a virtual server NCS is my recommendation.
