revert to autonomous AP cisco 887W

Hello all!

Recently I decided to upgrade IOS images both on router and on the embedded access-point. After successfully doing all proper procedures to upgrade IOS on the router I moved on the access-point.. that’s where the problems began:

First, I formatted flash. After doing proper configurations in ap: mode (rommon), copied IOS image ap801-k9w8-tar.124-25e.JA1.tar and then extracted it. Then I extracted (not copied as I wasn’t allowed) ap801-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JY.tar, then I issued reset command in order to boot access-point image..heh , so I thought!

Access-point now is in LWAPP mode, getting constantly these messages:

%WLAN_AP_SM-6-AUTO_IMAGE: Embedded AP will change boot image to autonomous. Please use service-module wlan-ap 0 reload to boot up autonomous image on AP

%CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Not sending discovery request AP does not have an Ip !!

And on the router side when I issued the command service-module wlan-ap 0 reload I got the following message:

The embedded AP is in LWAPP mode

Reload/reset is normally handled by WLC controller

Configuration file can NOT be saved

Do you want to proceed with reload?[confirm] y

Trying to reload Service Module wlan-ap0.

And again is in LWAPP mode

Here’s access-point flash:

Directory of flash:/

   13 drwx         128   Jan 1 1970 00:07:22 +00:00 ap801-rcvk9w8-mx

Finally if I don’t issue the command service-module wlan-ap 0 reset bootloader the access-point keeps resetting after 5-10 mins (cannot find IP reason? I don’t know)

Now I have not any idea how to revert it back to normal access-point. I’m googling it over a day now with no luck so your help is really appreciated .

Alex

The current image your AP shows is only LWAPP ap801-k9w8-mx.124-25e.JA1, when you see in the file name (w8) it is LWAPP, IOS is (W7), you need to load an IOS image to the unit and then make it boot from this IOS image, the latest IOS imsage for the AP module in an 887 is ap801-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JY.tar

Re: revert to autonomous AP cisco 887W

I have a 1941 and have no issue converting back an forth using the two commands. I currently have mine in lwapp. I would try to upload the iOS image if possible, but if you have deleted the rcv image, I don't understand how it still would boot in lwapp.

Thanks,

    3  -rwx     5416960   Jan 1 1970 00:09:45 +00:00  ap801-k9w8-tar.124-25e.JA1.tar
    4  -rwx           0   Mar 1 2002 00:00:26 +00:00  config.txt
    5  drwx         320   Jan 1 1970 00:07:35 +00:00  ap801-k9w8-mx.124-25e.JA1
   11  -rwx        5144   Mar 1 2002 00:00:26 +00:00  private-multiple-fs
   12  -rwx          65   Jan 1 1970 00:00:31 +00:00  env_vars

... and stills boots up as lwapp!

Re: revert to autonomous AP cisco 887W

Seems like #5 is a directory. Can you try to delete everything inside that and then delete the directory.

Thanks,
