Routing using Wireless LAN Controller

I was wondering if Wireless LAN controller (5508) can handle routing? Here is our problem.

We have a remote site where we just have bunch of 2900 series switch. The router is owned and managed by the TELCO provider.

We would like to install a controller (5508) and would like the controller do routing for the following subnets:

Enterprise network                                              10.10.10.0 /24

Guest network                                                     10.10.20.0/24

Mobile network (iPhone / iPad)                               10.10.30.0/24

Management Interface (AP)                                      10.10.40.0/24

Is this possible? Or we need a layer 3 switch or a router who can do routing for wireless controller.

If possible we prefer NOT to use TELCO router do routing for wireless subnet?

Re: Routing using Wireless LAN Controller

Unfortunately the WLC is it a routing device. It is layer 2 only.

Re: Routing using Wireless LAN Controller

Steve means its NOT a routing deivce. The wlc allows static routes to the service port. All other traffic is "swicthed" within the wlc .

Routing using Wireless LAN Controller

I am sorry I did not understand your answer completed. Are you trying to say that WLC is NOT a router / layer 3 device. It is just a Layer 2 device only?

Thanks Stephen & George !

Re: Routing using Wireless LAN Controller

A quick note -- make sure the service port can not route to the managment port of the wlc. Its mentioned in the config guide as well. If you do, you can see some really odd behavior.
