Schedule SSID Availability

Hi all,

We currently have 30+ access points deployed (Aironet 1200 Series & Aironet 1240 Series) managed by a 4402 controller (Software version 7.0.116.0).

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to 'schedule' the availability of a particular SSID? We want to broadcast a SSID (and allow users to connect) between certain times each day, and then take it offline.

Is there some way we can do this using the controller or Cisco WCS (currently running version 7.0.172.0) or would it be a manual process of disabling the interface and stop the broadcast of the SSID?

Many thanks in advance,

JP

You can do this several ways.  If you want to use PI, then go to Deploy > Scheduled Configuration Task > WLAN Configuration.

Remember, you need to specify what time the SSID is enabled and what time the SSID is disabled.  You can't just specify one.  It's an annoying "feature".

Hi ,

On the IOS APs there is no way to schdule that the SSID is broadcasted in a time frame or period, but you can configure a time based ACL so that the SSID will be always broadcasted but once the ACL comes in they useres will not be able to pass traffic.

On the LWAPP managed by a WLC we can not set either the SSID to be broadcasted on a time frame or period and the time based ACL is not avilabale.

Hi,

Does anyone know if this can be achieved with Prime infrastructure 2.1 or on wlcs with updated code?

Nice one Leo, thanks for the input!!

you could push the template to specified time from WCS to WLC to automatically disable/enable particular WLAN(s).

hi , please check this out and let us know if it works with you

Q. Is there a way to schedule a time when the Cisco IOS Software-based AP is available? I want to provide time-based access to clients that connect to the AP.

A. You can configure time-based access control lists (ACLs) with use of time ranges. Time-based ACLs help you to make sure that users are able to access the wireless network within a particular time period, for example, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (0900 to 1700). The use of time-based ACLs does not shut down the AP or radio. Time-based ACLs stop the passing of traffic on the AP so that users cannot access the network. For information on how to configure this feature, refer to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps1018/products_tech_note09186a00800a5b9a.shtml#timebasedtimerange

Hi,

This is  a time based ACL that works only on autonomous access points ruining in IOS, on access points managed by a WLC in LWAPP mode like in your case it can not be configured and you could try to use the option of the WCS.
