Setting up Aironet 1600

Hi,

We just got a 2500 controller and three of the 1600 aironet access points. I have the controller setup but I can't get the access point to connect to it. I have tried plugging it in to the PC and it asks me for a username and password when I go through the serial port. Any help will be extremely appreciated. I really just need to give it a static IP and I'll be all set. Thanks!

There are two types of APs LWAPP and Autonomous

If you need to integrate that to the WLC you need to convert it to LWAPP

To verify, you need a console cable and access the CLI through Console
Default creds is : Cisco/Cisco --capital C

IF:
<mac-address>:    -LWAPP
ap:                           -autonomous

Check the cisco documentation about converting Autonomous to AP (google will do the trick)
With regards to joining your AP.

I would recommend that you assign your APs statistically, there are many ways you can do this
1. Create a DHCP Pool and once the APs join assign them
2. Invoke through CLI

Since those are just 3 APs I would suggest invoking it in the CLI, here is how to do it:

#capwap ap ip address <IP> <NETMASK>
#capwap ap ip default-gateway <IP>
#capwap ap ip controller ip address <WLC-IP>

#show capwap ip config       -to verify

Lsgabrillo is right. First you need to be sure that you are using lwapp instead of autonomous. I had this problem too and the problem was that my 1240 ap was autonomous so I had to converted to lwapp and then the aps was able to download the image from lan controller

Hi Melissa.

What image are using your AP's?

Check this link, maybe it help to understand the AP's images.
