Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

hi there,

I've been asked to create 2 wireless networks for guest access. They are to be used by clients of 2 different companies and they have asked for the website of each company to automatically open as a landing page. e.g.

WLAN1 - password is companyname1 - landing page = www.companyname1.com

WLAN2 - password is companyname2 - landing page = www.companyname2.com

Is this possible with our 5508 WLC? I have googled it and can see that you can set a web auth page but I need different landing pages depending on which WLAN is connected to.

Hope this makes sense - TIA for any advice.

Al

Only for webauth, not SSID that are not configured for webauth.

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Yea this is possible. I'd you are just using the WLC you can create the page for each company then load the tar file to the WLC. Under each WLAN you are able to override the default config and choose the page that is appropriate.

If you need a template to follow there is a sample bundle in the same area where you download the WLC code.

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Thanks for replying Stephen.

Are you saying you have to upload the (html) files for the website to the WLC as opposed to redirecting to the actual website?

Thanks,

Alun

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Yes. In the current version you can only redirect to one external URL.

Well you can try to force a redirect from the html code.  Look for this code and make the appropriate changes.

function submitAction(){

      var link = document.location.href;

      var searchString = "redirect=";

      var equalIndex = link.indexOf(searchString);

      var redirectUrl = "";

      var urlStr = "";

      if(equalIndex > 0) {

            equalIndex += searchString.length;

            urlStr = link.substring(equalIndex);

            if(urlStr.length > 0){

                                                                redirectUrl = "http://www.cisco.com";

                                                    if(redirectUrl.length > 255)

                                                                    redirectUrl = redirectUrl.substring(0,255);

                                                    document.forms[0].redirect_url.value = redirectUrl;

Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Thanks for the suggestion Scott - where would I find this code to edit?

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

It's on the custom webauth bundles you can download. So go to the downloads for the 5508 and you will see webauth bundles. That zip file has multiple HTML files for various pages. You can modify those and the code is in there.

You would need to do a custom HTML in order to do this redirect off the HTML page since the wlc limits you to one redirect.

Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Thanks Scott - I really appreciate the help.

Creating a customer webauth page to redirect to different websites sounds really complicated - I'm not sure this is within my range of expertise!

I was thinking of saying we could only redirect to one website.

If I setup the web login page under security - web auth - web login page. Will that apply to all wireless networks? If it does that is a problem!

Cheers again,

Al

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Thanks Scott. Last Q - is it difficult to write a custom web auth page?

Re: Setting up guest WLANs with landing page

Well the question is if you know (basic) how to edit HTML. If so then it's easy.
